January ‘Photo-A-Day’ Challenge 2010 from Sharon Mallin on Vimeo.
A quick slideshow of my ‘Photo-A-Day’ challenge photo’s for January 2010. Most days, I took more than one photo – I couldnt help myself :)
My name is Sharon Mallin and I am a natural light portrait and on-location photographer based in the Blue Mountains, NSW. I specialise in maternity, newborn, babies, children and family portraiture. I live at Faulconbridge (in the gorgeous Blue Mountains). I am happily married and have two beautiful children ~ a very active handsome little boy and a precious little girl.
One of my favourite photography quotes is by Sandra Edwards, and is one that I draw great inspiration from:“A photograph is not only a reflection of people. It is a reflection of compassion, love and memories of good times”.I hope you enjoy my photography blog! Feel free to leave me a comment so that I know you stopped by.

Day 31: ‘These Are A Few Of Our Favourite Things’
And so we arrive at the last day of this challenge. I thought a fun way to end it would be to take a photo of some of our favourite things.
So from left to right:
- Bushfire Magazine & Compass … Jonathan volunteers with the Rural Fire Service.
- Snorkel Set … this is a new hobby that he is quite enjoying when he gets the chance.
- Golf Club & Ball … he loves to play golf, and hopes to play more this year.
- Abseiling Gear (Rapple Rack & Carabiner) … am sensing a sport/adventure theme here :)
- Digital SLR Camera … this is my old one, as I was using my 5D2 to take this photo :)
- Chocolate … what else is there to say – yum!
-Tea Pot/Cup ‘For One’ Set … I find tea so relaxing, and great to balance out sweet things like chocolate lol.
- PC Mouse … I’ll admit, I spend a lot of time on the computer, for both work and play.
- Soccer Ball & Boots … he is playing soccer again this year, and very much looking forward to it.
- Knee Pads … he uses these on his 2 wheel bike and scooter.
- Reading Cards … he is loving learning to read, so that’s why I included these.
- PC Mouse … he is sharing this ‘favourite thing’ with me. He loves playing on his computer and sending emails.
- Handbag & Little Books … she loves both, and when they can go together – she is tickled pink.
- Goggles (a.k.a ‘Gobbles’) … Jessie is a water girl for sure and certain. Lately she has asked every day to go to the pool.
- Pencils … a little picaso in the making perhaps :)
- Fairies … my how she loves watching them and dancing along. I included her little fairy wand also.
And so ends my January ‘Photo-A-Day’ Challenge. I have really enjoyed it. I am considering doing a June or July ‘Photo-A-Day’ Challenge – but will see what the year has in store. I’ll definitely be back doing it again in January 2011. Thanks for sharing the journey.

Day 30: Great Ideas!
These photographs are not what you might call ‘technical perfection’. But what I love about them is what they represent in my children.
Benny – is so adventurous, and loves dreaming and scheming fun and exciting things to do. We were changing the sheets on the beds today and he saw his fold out lounge. You could see his little mind ticking over. Before we knew it – he had set up this ‘lounge slide’.
Jessie – she is quite brave and willing to get right along side her big brother and share in his funny little antics – even if that involves sliding head first down the ‘lounge slide’.
They make us laugh and we love them to pieces!!!
Day 29: Kindergarten Assessment Day
So today was a big day for Benny. He had his ‘Best Start’ Kindergarten Assessment, which is a one-on-one assessment that Benny had with his kindergarten teacher – who we found out is Mr Edwards. Benny was in his room for some of the orientation programs last year – so we are all happy that he will be Benny’s teacher this year.
The assessment went for about 30-40 minutes – and tested Benny’s numeracy and literacy skills – so that Mr Edwards can start working with Benny at the point he is already at academically against the curriculum. We will get a Departmental report back in about 8 weeks – however Mr Edwards did mention at the end of Benny’s assessment that he did quite well.
So now that is all done, all of his school stuff is bought and labelled – we wait for the first day – which is next Thursday (4th February).
I took one photo on the way out to the car, of Benny against one of the art walls at the school – which happens to be the end of the Kindergarten block at school.
6 more sleeps to go!
We had a false start to Benny’s ‘Best Start’ Assessment. We turned up at 11.15am to do it, but there was a mix up and the school had him down at 1.15pm. So we headed home, via the park . Here are a couple of photographs.
