Welcome To My Photography Blog!

profile

My name is Sharon Mallin and I am a natural light portrait and on-location photographer based in the Blue Mountains, NSW. I specialise in maternity, newborn, babies, children and family portraiture. I live at Faulconbridge (in the gorgeous Blue Mountains). I am happily married and have two beautiful children ~ a very active handsome little boy and a precious little girl.

One of my favourite photography quotes is by Sandra Edwards, and is one that I draw great inspiration from:“A photograph is not only a reflection of people. It is a reflection of compassion, love and memories of good times”.

I hope you enjoy my photography blog! Feel free to leave me a comment so that I know you stopped by.

An Update On My B.I.G Project {Blue Mountains Photographer}

September 3, 2010

Well I am one month into my B.I.G Project and so thought I would collate my daily iPhone photo’s into one image to commemorate the first month. I have really really enjoyed doing this, and am looking forward to seeing what this next month has in store. It really is amazing to be reminded of how much we have to be thankful and grateful for.

For those who aren’t sure exactly what this little project is about – here is a link to the first post which explains it all: http://sharonmallin.posterous.com/inspired-by

After taking a little break over winter, things will soon start to get busy with sessions booked for September and October. After a cold winter, it will be nice to get out and hopefully enjoy some lovely Spring weather!

InspireMe 2010: Boudoir Session {Blue Mountains Photographer}

May 20, 2010

On the Sunday night, an Off Camera Flash workshop was set up by Ainslie from Wild Spirit Photography. We had 2 gorgeous girls come in and model for us in a boudoir type session. While I havent really done a boudoir type session before – it was fun, and it was great to get an insight into this technique.

Ainslie – thanks for a great night! And I also must say a thank you to the 2 girls who put up with a lot of flashes going off and were very patient with all 12 photographers.

I thought I would also blog some pictures (from the Wild Spirit Photography Blog) of the mansion house we stayed at. It was tough work! :)

Last Day Of Being 5! {Blue Mountains Photographer}

May 6, 2010

This afternoon, I decided to take Benny for a walk down one of the dirt roads just behind our house. I wanted to take some photos to capture his last day of being 5. Yep – tomorrow it is his 6th birthday. I say it every year – but I can honestly remember the day he was born just like it was yesterday. Time surely does fly!

Oh how the years go by,
Oh how time can certainly fly.
From once just a thought in far away dreams,
now into my arms and in my eyes gleam
the presence of you.
Your laughter and smiles
which go on for miles,
warms my heart and soul.
You’re growing up so fast,
as I wish each moment with you to last forever.
My little boy will someday be a man
and right by your side I will forever stand.
I will pick up the pieces when you fall,
I will hold your hand and help you stand tall.
And when the day comes when you are on your own,
never feel that you are alone.
No matter how near or far apart
I am always right there in your heart.
Always remember whatever you go through
that no matter what, I will always love you.

And a colour photo to finish with – one of my favourites of the afternoon.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow darling Benny!

Love Mummy, Daddy & Jessie

A Picture Paints A Thousand Words! {Blue Mountains Photographer}

May 4, 2010

Sometimes it is hard to put into words the vast difference in quality between a photograph printed by a professional print lab,  as opposed to Department Stores that do in-store prints.

So when I had these two examples today (one in each hand) – I thought I would take the opportunity to blog them to try to demonstrate it. These are invitations I designed for my son’s upcoming birthday.

Please note:

  • I have blurred out the specific details.
  • Both printing places were provided with the exact same file.

And so without further ado …

  • The print on the left has been done by my print lab. It is matched perfectly to the design that I made.
  • The print on the right is done by one of the department stores that do  ’15 cents for a 6×4 print’. As you can see, the colours are WAY off; the sizing is distorted; it is not printed straight and so parts have been chopped off …

Do I need to say anymore?

Sharon :)
